Since 1974 the GIG prize which is endowed with 500 € (formely 1000 DM) is awarded every year. The first awardee in 1974 was Prof. Dr. Peter Berghaus. The GIG prize goes to outstanding personalities from Germany and abroad who are not neccessarily experts in the numismatic field, but are friendly to the interest of coin collectors.
